Orofacial Pain: Current Trends and Future Directions

Short Background and Objectives Orofacial pain (OFP) is a group of complex disorders which is common in the general population. In its chronic form OFP is associated with disability and significant cost to individuals and society. OFP has a multifactorial aetiology which includes biological, mechanical and psycho-social factors. In addition, patients with OFP are more likely to have other types of body pain which highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to OFP treatment. This special issue aims to overview the current knowledge and provide suggestions for future research in the area of OFP. Keywords: Orofacial pain; Temporomandibular disorders; Craniomandibular disorders; Atypical facial pain; Trigeminal neuralgia; Neuropathic pain; Epidemiology; Pain treatment; Pain management.

Other types of papers not mentioned above but related to OFP are also invited. Submissions from multi-disciplinary and international teams are particularly welcome. All manuscripts will be sent out for anonymous peer review.
