Macroscopic aspect of the hemi-maxillae from rats subjected to periodontitis and treated with strontium ranelate (20 or 100 mg/kg) for 7 days.
Upper hemi-maxillae corresponds to the contralateral side used as negative control whilst lower hemi-maxillae corresponds to the following groups:
A = maxilla from the unchallenged group;
B = maxilla from rats 7 days after periodontitis;
C and D = maxilla from strontium ranelate-treated (20 or 100 mg/kg) rats 7 days after periodontitis induction.
White arrows indicate the alveolar bone total area in maxillae (1% methylene blue staining).
