Materials: A = porous hydroxyapatite (HA); B = porous Ti; C = custom titanium implant; D = porous HA surface; E = porous Ti surface. Porous bone reconstruction materials are hollow (outer diameter 6 mm; inner diameter 2 mm; length 4 mm). The central inner hole was sized to fit the custom-fabricated pure titanium implant (diameter: 2 mm, height: 4 mm). Three-dimensional interconnected porous structures were detected in both the porous samples and the pore sizes were 150 µm in porous HA and 300 µm in porous Ti (original magnification x50 in SEM images).
